Working, 2016

This award winning sculpture is part of a series called Dismemberment. The series is about what it means to have a body right now. Our bodies are dissected and mashed back together, just like these pieces. The body parts are 3D scanned and modified. They are then printed and photographed. With a forward head posture, this piece is hunched over. Where the head would usually be, we find a hand, the symbol of work and labor. This piece is a parody of classical busts. Busts hide the hands of the depicted, hide the parts of the body that represent working and labor. This sculpture puts the depicted labor on display, as something to be celebrated and seen. As a digitally scanned, modeled and printed work, it also is thinking about what labor looks like.
